Our next door neighbor has been telling us for a while that cow tongue is his favorite meat. I wasn't too sure about it, but I told him I would try it. I mean, in the last six years we have eaten turtle eggs, iguana, bull testicles, chicken feet, intestine soup, cheese ice cream & pig feet (and probably other things I don't remember). The cow tongue tacos tonight were pretty good! I can probably say it's the best weird thing I've eaten.
We have asked people to be praying for our English-speaking cell group, fondly known as "Waffle-fest" because we often make waffles for our dinner together. In the past three months we have seen it grow from 4 people to 14, with 2 men having accepted Christ and 1 who is seriously considering it. We study the book of Acts, using "The Dust Off their Feet", a collection of modern commentaries through the book. We have been challenged and spurred each other on to live more like the early church, letting each chapter push us into something new in our lives of faith.
True to the stereotype, we have found that most churches do not plan their sermons or speakers too far in advance. Last week, Greg got invited to speak at a chapel service about 6 hours before it was to begin. Today I got invited to speak at church to the women with 4 hours notice. We have both learned to take some time and develop outlines or at least to always have something in the works so we can be prepared for those last minute invitations. It feels good to be the last-minute go-to guy when someone cancels or they haven't organized their speakers very well. I have found that my last minute messages are usually the best ones because I have to depend on God for every word and I tend to speak from the heart more. It has taught us to be ready in season and out of season, always ready even if we don't feel like it. I just am thankful for the opportunity to share with people what God is doing in me and through me. What an opportunity!
