"When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, 'How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?' Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed." - Revelation 6:9-11
A team of 23 South Korean Christians were taken hostage in Afghanistan by the Taliban on July 19. Please watch the 3-minute video taken from one of the hostage's websites and fervently intercede for these brothers and sisters who count their lives as nothing in order to proclaim Christ to the nations.
This is Pastor Bae Hyung-Kyu, one of the team leaders. He was a youth pastor and assistant pastor at Saemmul Community Church near Seoul, South Korea. He was found shot 10 times in the head, chest and stomach.
"How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true...O how long...?"
Thank you for sharing. As I sat here and watched the video I started crying. Courtney came and sat beside me and watched with me. I had the chance to talk to my kids about our freedom and the cost of serving Christ in other places. Thank you for reminding us to pray.

Thank you, Helen. Our son Jackson (age 9) has also been deeply affected by their plight and has been telling everyone he sees to pray for them. Last night he asked me why God isn't protecting them...one of those questions parents don't like to answer. I read him the passage above from Revelation and explained that we as Christians are in a war and in this war there will be martyrs. Tough stuff for an adult to swallow, not to mention a nine year-old.

I have a lot of Korean friends and they have been passing around this petition that you can sign in support of the hostages.
