Orphans
This weekend we had the privelige to take a couple out to an orphanage nearby. They are interested in adopting a Nicaraguan child. It was so surreal to take them there and watch them with the kids, possibly one of them their future child! This photo is of the orphans one day as they were in town. They were walking by and we happened to be sitting in the garage, Josh playing guitar and I was singing. They stopped at the gate and we sang them a song, and they in turn sang one for us. It was one of my favorite moments ever!
Goyo,
I was wondering if you know how often a couple comes to Masatepe to find a way to adopt a child.

From what I've read, Nicaragua is a closed country when it comes to international adoptions. I take it this was a native couple? I wonder how popular adoptions are there.

Actually, it is pretty common for foreigners to obtain special permisson to adopt here. They often have to become residents, which can be an involved process, but they can do it. There is a law that has been drafted and awaiting passage in the assembly to allow for foreign adoptions. It is getting easier and easier. I heard that there are between 4000-4500 orphans currently in orphanages right now, so there are plenty available.
We really don't know how often couples come to Masatepe to adopt, but one could easily find out by contacting Patricia at the orphanage.
